Three Essentials

In order for us to have a proper or true life of faith, there are 3 things that are essential:

Knowledge, Faith, and Actions

What is the relationship between these 3 things?
God’s people are destroyed from a lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6)
Faith comes from hearing the message, the word of Christ (Rom 10:17).
This means we have to have knowledge in order to have faith. Why is faith so important? Because without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6).
So how can we prove our faith? Through our actions. Faith without actions is dead (James 2:17 & 26).
If we say we believe but do not act, our faith is dead.

The proper knowledge will lead to the proper faith, which means we will be able to have the proper actions. However, if we do not have proper or true knowledge (knowledge of the truth), then our faith will be based on lies (untruth). And if our faith is based on lies, then we won’t be able to carry out the proper actions, we simply won’t know what it is that we have to do, and when we have to do it.

Let’s take Matthew 24:15-16 for example,

“So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.”

Matthew 24 is a chapter where Jesus gives his disciples signs concerning the end of the age and his return. This chapter, and the next
one, are prophecies about the second coming (for the context read Mt 24:3).

We have to know this prophecy, understand it’s fulfillment, have faith in the word of testimony, and then have the proper action of fleeing to the mountain.

Will we be able to flee to the mountain if we don’t know and understand the prophecy and it’s fulfillment? No, instead we will stay where we are and end up being destroyed by the ‘abomination that causes desolation’ because of our lack of knowledge (Hos 4:6).

And when we don’t have the proper action of fleeing because we don’t know and understand that we have to, that proves that our faith is based on lies and is dead (James 2:26).

The proper knowledge leads to the proper faith, which means we can have the proper actions.

We have to know, understand, and believe the testimony concerning the fulfillment of these prophecies so that we can act according to God’s word and flee to the mountains.

Let’s not stay where we are and be destroyed.
Now is the time to flee!

    • Hey, good to hear from you! My posts have become few and far between lately, I need to get back in the swing of writing, but so much going on and so much to do… we should catch up sometime. Hope 2012 is treating you well so far :)

  1. Knowledge is key, but knowledge is not limited literal knowledge of text. Knowledge can also mean knowledge of our true selves – or our individual potential and purpose in this world. Let’s be real…not many of us are very real anymore. This is because very few of us really know ourselves. We assume that what we are told about ourselves is true and we try to live up to what might be an illusion. The text is the first step. The next step is to use the knowledge of the text to lead on the path to the “mountains” – or, away from the lies and into the truth (metaphorically)

    • Hi PC,
I agree that we have to use the word to lead us away from the lies, but that can only be done if we know the word and the actions we have to carry out.
Also, depending on the words that we choose to believe proves who we really are (and who we really belong to) …which means we can know who we truly are by looking at our actions.

I am not sure I agree with your statement “not many of us are very real anymore”, but I am also not sure I understand what you mean – in a physical sense or a spiritual sense?

Hope you have a great weekend
